Job Title: Intermediate Environmental Scientist

Ausenco is a leading environmental consulting firm seeking an experienced Intermediate Environmental Scientist to join our team in the Yukon office.

About the Role

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated individual to work on a wide range of environmental projects, including biological surveys, habitat assessments, environmental compliance monitoring, and environmental permitting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and lead biological surveys, conduct habitat assessments, and environmental compliance monitoring
  • Collect, manage, interpret, and report on environmental data
  • Support the development of scopes of work and budgets for proposals
  • Design and implement terrestrial and aquatic habitat mitigation and offsetting measures
  • Contribute to the compilation and writing of regulatory submissions
  • Contribute to the development of environmental assessment reports and support project teams during all stages of a project life cycle
  • Manage and track communication processes between proponents, environmental teams, and regulatory agencies
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies and Indigenous peoples
  • Mentor junior staff
  • Provide and receive constructive feedback on the work of others and yourself
  • Adhere to health and safety plans and quality processes on all work, projects, and reports
Requirements
  • University degree in biology, ecology, environmental science, or a related field
  • 5-7 years industry experience within environmental consulting
  • Professional designation (e.g., R.P.Bio or P.Biol.) or eligibility for a designation
  • Knowledge of provincial, territory, and federal environmental legislation gained through formal studies or practical experience
  • Experience with proposal preparation
  • Experience leading and conducting biological surveys, aquatic or terrestrial habitat assessments, environmental monitoring, permitting, and reporting
  • Willingness to work outside in adverse weather conditions for long periods at a time and in remote locations
  • Ability to coordinate and work effectively with environmental subcontractors
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to think independently and strategically, maintain a positive attitude, be self-motivated, and employ a strong work initiative
  • Ability to work with junior and senior staff on various projects of differing complexity
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic and fast-paced work environment
  • Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
  • Valid driver's license
  • High commitment to health and safety
