Genetic Counsellor, Hereditary Cancer

BC Cancer is seeking a skilled Genetic Counsellor to join our Hereditary Cancer Program. As a key member of our team, you will provide genetic counselling to patients and their families, helping them navigate the complexities of hereditary cancer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough medical and family history interviews with patients and their family members.
  • Explain hereditary cancer patterns and associated cancer risks to patients and their families.
  • Recommend cancer screening based on family history and standard guidelines.
  • Explain genetic susceptibility testing and its potential benefits and harms.
  • Coordinate genetic testing and counselling with external centres as needed.
  • Refer patients to relevant health professionals as necessary.
  • Document patient information, including medical history, risk assessments, and cancer surveillance strategies.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Genetic Counselling from an accredited program.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in genetic counselling or a related field.
  • Board eligibility or certification with the Canadian Association of Genetic Counsellors or the American Board of Genetic Counselling.
