Child and Youth Counsellor

We are seeking a highly skilled Child and Youth Counsellor to join our team at the Royal Ottawa Health Care Group. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing therapeutic services to youth with early onset major psychiatric disorders.
Key Responsibilities- Program Development and Implementation: Plan and implement Child and Youth Counsellor Programs to meet the needs of our youth clients.
- Record Keeping and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and statistics for regular reporting purposes.
- Collaboration and Teamwork: Confer and cooperate with other Child and Youth Counsellors and treatment team members to provide comprehensive assessment and treatment services.
- Safe and Therapeutic Environment: Ensure a safe and therapeutic milieu within the unit, including management of crisis situations.
- Student Supervision: Supervise Child and Youth Counsellor Students as needed.
- Coverage and Crisis Management: Provide coverage on all units and manage crisis situations in accordance with policy and guidelines.
- Group Leadership: Lead and participate in groups with patients and families.
- Other Duties: Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Education: Child & Youth Care Advanced Diploma or Bachelor of Child & Youth Care.
- Experience: Experience in working with youth in a therapeutic milieu.
- Skills: Ability to create and maintain therapeutic relationships with youth and to relate to other team members.
- Collaboration and Independence: Capable of working independently while being a collaborative member of a team.
- DBT Experience: Experience in DBT treatment modalities and working with high-risk youth is preferred.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work variable hours and to be involved in all types of Child and Youth Counsellor Programs.
- Group Development: Ability to develop, implement, and facilitate groups.
- Certifications: Possess up-to-date CPR and Safety and Security in the Workplace workshop.
- Communication: Ability to write and communicate effectively.
- Computer Skills: Knowledge of computers and ability to learn computer skills appropriate to patient record-keeping needs.
- Language: English level A- is mandatory in oral comprehension, expression, reading, and writing. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.
