Alexa Daily Essentials is seeking a highly skilled Senior Applied Scientist to lead groundbreaking innovations on large language models to enhance Alexa's language understanding, knowledge representation, reasoning, and generation capabilities.
About the RoleThis is a high-impact role that offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of Alexa AI. As a Senior Applied Scientist, you will bring deep expertise to lead innovation in AI, working with complete autonomy to transform your vision into high-impact results.
Key Responsibilities- Lead projects where you and your team rapidly prototype and deliver ML/LLM solutions to Alexa users.
- Lead and deliver high-impact research projects focused on advancing LLM capabilities in areas like model latency, multimodel systems, personalization, and reasoning.
- Define and establish LLM best practices and operational excellence for both science and engineering teams across the organization.
- Work closely with engineering, product, and user experience teams to integrate your science breakthroughs into the Alexa ecosystem.
- Guide and mentor junior scientists and engineers to foster a culture of inclusion, innovation, technical excellence, and continuous learning.
- Publish in top-tier conferences and journals to establish our reputation as a leader in AI research.
- Contribute to the development of the organization's AI strategy, keeping up-to-date on emerging trends and opportunities for differentiation in the AI landscape.
- 6+ years of building machine learning models for business application experience
- PhD, or Master's degree and 6+ years of applied research experience
- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python, or related languages
- Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning
- Experience with conducting research in a corporate setting
- Experience with modeling tools such as R, scikit-learn, Spark MLLib, MxNet, TensorFlow, NumPy, SciPy, etc.
- Experience in building speech recognition, machine translation, and natural language processing systems (e.g., commercial speech products or government speech projects)

CompensationThe base salary for this position ranges from $195,900/year up to $327,200/year. Salary is based on a number of factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
