Plant Operations Manager

Job Summary
The Plant Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the overall performance of a fast-paced manufacturing site. This includes establishing and maintaining business objectives, ensuring compliance with all safety and environmental responsibilities, and developing and leading a competent and engaged team.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure excellence through the implementation of best practices in safety, housekeeping, preventive maintenance, productivity, and quality.
- Drive good customer service and responsiveness through effective communication and relationship-building.
- Develop and execute daily production plans and schedules to meet business objectives.
- Ensure the site meets expected financial returns, company, and site goals through effective cost management and process improvement.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and excellence across all functions and personnel roles.
- Share best practices and learn from other sites to drive operational efficiency and effectiveness.
- Ensure that products are manufactured within budget and quality commitments.
- Spent a significant amount of time on the production floor, interacting with plant teams and leadership to drive results.
- Ensure that internal control guidelines are followed by the site.
- Assist with the preparation of annual production budgets and capital project requests.
- Use key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure progress, including financial reports, production metrics, and operational dashboards.
- Ensure that all operational initiatives are implemented at the site.
- Hold self and employees accountable for creating and implementing best practices and doing what is right for the business.
- Direct and monitor the work of direct reports in accordance with business plans, site, and individual goals.
- Appraise employee performance and recommend appropriate actions to leadership.
- Develop training programs to promote employee engagement and development.
- Use standardized skills matrices and customized job interviews to ensure consistency in hiring talent that aligns with the required skillset for each role on the site.
- Set expectations with employees on good customer service and responsiveness.
- Ensure top-quality products that meet on-time delivery expectations.
Safety
- Take a leadership role in all investigations involving first aid or greater injury severity and property damage incidents considered greater than minor.
- Ensure that any reported hazards are immediately mitigated and resolved in a timely manner.
- Attend and support monthly safety training.
Productivity
- Ensure that production plans and schedules are in place and the team is executing to them.
- Drive labor best practices, managing on-time starts and employee overtime through operational tools and dashboards.
- Conduct daily shift huddles and utilize huddle boards to drive results.
- Ensure that site leaders are leveraging shift huddle data to manage downtime and working with maintenance lead to manage PM schedules.
- Lead weekly site performance reviews with both production and maintenance leads.
- Lead monthly downtime workshops, utilizing operational dashboards and tools, and includes both production and maintenance leads.
- Report site performance using KPIs and operational dashboards in a monthly performance review with business leaders.
Quality
- Direct the implementation of a best-in-class quality program to ensure consistent, top-quality products with minimal defects.
- Ensure that products meet and exceed customer expectations.
- Ensure that products meet and exceed company-set specifications and that product remains within budget and quality commitments.
Position Knowledge
- Previous knowledge of production equipment is a desirable asset.
- Basic knowledge of wet cast/dry cast and precast concrete production processes.
- Good mechanical and electrical skills.
- Excellent leadership and team-building skills.
- Proficient use of basic computer software such as Microsoft Office Products, Internet, Email.
