Pharmacy Assistant

The Pharmacy Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the Pharmacist in the technical aspects of prescription filling and administrative duties, enabling the Pharmacist to focus on providing exceptional patient care. As a key member of the pharmacy team, the Pharmacy Assistant is expected to participate in all aspects of pharmacy operations, delivering superior customer service and contributing to a positive work environment.
Key Responsibilities- Prescription Processing: Receive prescriptions from patients, ensuring compliance with provincial legal and regulatory requirements, and assess prescriptions for completeness, including patient information, prescriber details, and special requests.
- Computer Functions: Perform tasks as directed by the Pharmacist, including data entry, price checks, patient information updates, and competent interpretation and processing of written prescriptions, including Latin abbreviations and dosage calculations.
- Prescription Filling: Fill prescriptions under the supervision of the Pharmacist, selecting appropriate products, performing accuracy checks, and labeling and organizing prescriptions for pharmacist review.
- Inventory Management: Maintain inventory control, assist the Pharmacist in managing stock levels, and perform tasks such as checking for expired medications, cleaning the Will Call Bin, and ordering supplies.
- General Housekeeping: Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including stocking prescription filling supplies, keeping the dispensary tidy, and performing administrative tasks.
- Clerical Organization: File prescriptions, invoices, reports, and correspondence, and complete administrative support functions as assigned.
- OTC Operations: Assist with over-the-counter operations, including ordering, stocking, and cashier duties as assigned by the OTC Manager and/or Pharmacist.
