The primary role of the Senior Cost Estimator is to support the Senior Estimating Manager in overseeing bids, contracts, purchase orders, budgets, and various responsibilities associated with the estimating division.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze initial construction drawings to pinpoint potential efficiencies.
  • Evaluate trades and suppliers to ensure their qualifications.
  • Develop and maintain trade lists for each project, ensuring a minimum of two qualified trades/suppliers per scope of work.
  • Prepare bid packages.
  • Conduct quantity takeoffs as necessary (e.g., concrete supply takeoff for foundations).
  • Generate 'tender forms.'
  • Assemble tender drawings.
  • Create or adjust project-specific scopes of work.
  • Oversee the tender pricing process.
  • Distribute tender packages.
  • Address technical inquiries and clarify scopes of work for trades; provide additional information as needed.
  • Follow up to ensure timely pricing responses.
  • Perform detailed evaluations of quotes to ensure pricing is comparable.
  • Thoroughly review quotes to confirm that all necessary elements are included in the scope of work.
  • Negotiate with trades to secure optimal pricing.
  • Compile a tender analysis, recommending the most qualified trade for review and approval by the Estimating Manager and VP of Construction.
  • Manage contracts (including compilation, administration, scanning/saving documents, and distribution of final contracts to relevant trades).
  • Assist the Estimating Manager in analyzing historical data to formulate budgets for upcoming projects.
  • Additional special projects may be assigned by the Senior Estimating Manager.
