POSITION INFORMATION:

Regular Part-Time Support Staff Position
Department: School College Work Initiative (SCWI) & Academic Upgrading (AU)
Hours: 24 hours per week; includes periods of layoff.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This role is pivotal in fostering student achievement by offering academic and program advice to current, prospective, and at-risk students, emphasizing the significance of postsecondary education and facilitating their transition into higher education.

  • Academic & Program Guidance: Assist students in navigating postsecondary options, including college/university applications and financial aid processes.
  • Support Services: Build trust with diverse learners, address challenges faced by School Within a College (SWAC) and Adult Dual Credit (ADC) students, and collaborate with educators to ensure student eligibility.
  • Administrative Services: Manage necessary reports, application vouchers, and provide information on postsecondary opportunities and scholarships.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of student interactions and recommendations.
  • Progress Monitoring: Evaluate academic performance and intervene as needed to support student success.
  • Record Verification: Assist in the verification and updating of student records for accuracy.
  • Information Delivery: Ensure timely and professional communication of information to students and faculty.
  • Group Facilitation: Lead discussions on postsecondary pathways for students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. A three-year diploma with a strong focus on interpersonal communication and human relations.
  2. A minimum of five years of relevant experience in student or client-facing roles.
  3. Experience working with at-risk youth is essential.
  4. Familiarity with School College Work Initiative and secondary school academic policies.
  5. Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  6. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  7. Proven capability to work both collaboratively and independently.
  8. Experience applying an equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging perspective in student interactions.
  9. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills in a fast-paced environment.
  10. Excellent interpersonal skills to build rapport with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  11. Knowledge of Banner registration and scheduling systems is advantageous.
  12. Experience in educational settings, particularly with SWAC programs, is a plus.
