Mental Health Crisis Peer Support Worker

The Prince George Native Friendship Centre is committed to delivering programs and services that prioritize reconciliation and cultural safety. As a Mental Health Crisis Peer Support Worker, you will play a critical role in our Peer Assisted Care Team (PACT), providing crisis support services that integrate cultural safety protocols and holistic care options.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide crisis support services to individuals and families experiencing a mental health crisis in Prince George.
  • Work collaboratively with a mental health professional to assess and intervene in crisis situations.
  • Utilize knowledge and experiences in crisis assessment and intervention, de-escalation, harm reduction, suicide prevention, anti-oppressive practice, client-centred and recovery-oriented care, trauma-informed practice, and culturally competent care.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community partners and stakeholders to ensure effective service delivery.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance skills and knowledge.
Requirements:
  • Education in a related field with a combination of related lived or living experience in Mental Health.
  • Experience in community mental health and addictions field.
  • Certification in or willing to obtain: First Aid, Food Safe, Class 4 Driver's License, Suicide Intervention, and Conflict Resolution, Naloxone Training.
  • Ability to undergo a successful criminal record search.
  • Ability to work outdoors and understand harm reduction as a practice.
  • A strong knowledge of clinical and crisis assessments, concurrent disorders, homelessness, crisis intervention strategies, trauma-informed practice, strengths-based models.
  • Understanding and knowledge of working with persons with mental health and/or addictions issues as well as an understanding of the intersectionality of systemic barriers and social determinants of health.
  • Knowledge of systemic and structural factors that impact Black, Indigenous, racialized and LGBTQ2S+ communities.
  • The ability to maintain a non-judgmental and non-stigmatizing approach is required.
  • Willingness to participate in on-the-job on-going training and outside training.
  • Good verbal, written communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be willing to work shifts that include overnight, weekends and holidays.
  • Starting wage $33/hr. - $35/hr. depending on education and experience.
