Position Overview

Join our dedicated team at Prairie Sky School Inc. as a Student Support Specialist. This permanent role offers a full-time commitment of 40 hours per week in an urban setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist students during academic and extracurricular activities.
  • Provide individualized support to students or small groups, enhancing their understanding and retention of learning materials under the guidance of the classroom instructor.
  • Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned by the school administration.
  • Oversee students during various school activities and events.
  • Monitor student behavior during breaks and lunch periods.
  • Facilitate student integration into the classroom environment.
  • Help maintain classroom supplies and resources.
  • Track and communicate student progress to the classroom teacher.
Qualifications

Applicants should possess the following:

  • Completion of a college, CEGEP, or other non-university certificate or diploma program lasting between 1 to 2 years.
  • A minimum of 1 to less than 7 months of relevant experience.
  • Certification in food allergy and anaphylaxis training.
  • Current CPR certification.
Experience with Special Needs

Ideal candidates will have experience working with:

  • Children on the autism spectrum.
  • Students with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or attention deficit disorder (ADD).
  • Children facing learning disabilities.
Safety and Security

Successful candidates must undergo:

  • A criminal record check.
  • A vulnerable sector check.
Work Environment

This role involves:

  • Working in a fast-paced environment.
  • A combination of sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Handling weights between 45 and 60 kg.
