Job Summary:

The Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Regional Public Health Manager to lead the Safe Communities program. This program is a critical component of the Approaches to Community Wellbeing, a regional public health system serving 31 First Nations communities in the Sioux Lookout region.

The successful candidate will provide strategic direction and oversight for the Safe Communities program, working closely with community leaders, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders to enhance the capacity of First Nations communities to address environmental health, injury prevention, and emergency preparedness.

The Regional Public Health Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing regional policies, objectives, and standards for Safe Communities, as well as providing supervision and direction to a team of professionals.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in public health, environmental health, and emergency preparedness, with experience in project management, leadership, and team supervision. They will also possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including First Nations communities, healthcare providers, and government agencies.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Program Development and Implementation:
  • Develop and implement regional policies, objectives, and standards for Safe Communities
  • Conduct needs assessments and develop strategic plans to address environmental health, injury prevention, and emergency preparedness in First Nations communities
  • Collaborate with community leaders, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders to develop and implement program initiatives
Team Supervision and Leadership:
  • Supervise and direct a team of professionals responsible for delivering Safe Communities services
  • Provide coaching, guidance, and support to team members to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties
  • Develop and implement performance management plans to ensure team members are meeting program objectives
Communication and Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community leaders, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication and collaboration
  • Provide regular updates and reports to stakeholders on program progress and outcomes
  • Represent the Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority at internal and external meetings, conferences, and committees
Program Evaluation and Quality Improvement:
  • Evaluate the effectiveness, relevance, and acceptability of Safe Communities programming
  • Develop and implement quality improvement plans to address program gaps and areas for improvement
  • Collaborate with the Roots for Community Wellbeing team to evaluate program outcomes and identify areas for improvement
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in a health-related field, such as public health, environmental health, or emergency management
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in public health, environmental health, or emergency management, with a focus on First Nations communities
  • Proven track record of leadership and team supervision, with experience in developing and implementing regional policies and standards
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to travel to remote First Nations communities and work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
