Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Residential Worker to join our team at The Salvation Army Hamilton Booth Centre. As a key member of our support staff, you will play a vital role in providing a safe and supportive environment for our residents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct initial screenings of clients seeking admission, ensuring their behavior meets our policy and procedure standards.
  • Complete client intake forms, update records, and register clients as needed.
  • Provide meal tickets or prepared lunches according to approved procedures.
  • Conduct security rounds of the facility, checking for any potential hazards or issues.
  • Record activities and incidents in a factual and concise manner using our log books and incident reports.
  • Answer phone calls and provide direction to inquirers.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the front desk area and surrounding spaces.
  • Call emergency services when necessary.
  • Complete incident reports and statistics before the end of each shift.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding client and staff information.
  • Work closely with supervisors and carry out assigned tasks.
  • Call in relief workers as needed, following established procedures.
  • Perform bed checks according to approved procedures.
Organizational Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate knowledge of The Salvation Army Booth Centre's policy and procedures manual.
  • Meet with the Program Manager for regular supervision.
  • Participate in formal evaluation sessions with the Program Manager.
  • Model appropriate qualities for this position, including self-motivation, punctuality, and personal hygiene.
  • Commit to and sign the agency and client confidentiality form.
  • Attend staff meetings, training workshops, and conferences as authorized.
  • Work within the mandate and mission of The Salvation Army.
  • Represent The Salvation Army in a professional manner.
Working Conditions

This is a permanent part-time position with 15 hours per week. Flexibility in scheduling is required, and the work schedule will be determined in consultation with your supervisor.

Applicable shifts include a 1/2 hour paid meal break.

May work with potentially aggressive clients.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Post-secondary education preferred, or a combination of education and related life experience.
  • Possess current WHMIS, First Aid, and CPR certificates.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Experience and Knowledge
  • Demonstrate knowledge of community-based resources.
Skills and Capabilities
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and effective interpersonal skills.
  • Competent on computer equipment such as Windows, Microsoft Office, and HIFIS.
  • Ability to establish and implement goals and plans for self and clients.
  • Maturity and ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to work with socially disadvantaged people who may often harbor resentment and anger.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and under supervision.
  • Ability to lift/carry up to forty pounds.
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.
