Cyber Security Analyst - 4-6 Months

The IT/OT COOP Student will join our Cyber Security Technology & Operations team to defend Hydro One Networks against cyber attacks and proactively assess existing defenses.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Supporting cybersecurity projects to enhance our defenses
  2. Collecting and reporting cybersecurity metrics to inform our strategies
  3. Participating in incident response activities and drills to ensure readiness
  4. Triage of security incidents and administration requests to ensure timely resolution
  5. Vulnerability management and remediation tracking to minimize risks
  6. Threat intelligence feed analysis and dissemination to stay ahead of threats
  7. EDR telemetry analysis to detect and respond to threats
  8. Penetration testing coordination to identify vulnerabilities
  9. IPS tuning to optimize our defenses
  10. SIEM event correlation and response to ensure timely detection
  11. DLP configuration and monitoring to protect sensitive data
General Accountabilities:
  1. Participating in business and IT-initiated projects to ensure security requirements are met
  2. Supporting IT/OT security operations to ensure the safety of our networks
  3. Contributing to the development of Hydro One's security policy, procedures, and guidelines
  4. Providing exceptional client service to support business objectives
Specific Accountabilities:
  1. Participating in business and IT-initiated projects to ensure security requirements are met
  2. Providing day-to-day review and analysis of our perimeter IT network to detect unauthorized access attempts
  3. Providing security architecture expertise to projects
  4. Cataloging security risks associated with projects and proposed solutions
  5. Reviewing and recommending approval for proposed technology solutions
  6. Reviewing and recommending sustainment adjustments to minimize risks
  7. Remaining operationally current on key and critical Hydro One IT/OT systems and networks
  8. Supporting complex and technical IT/OT investigations and addressing general queries
  9. Supporting IT/OT security threat and risk assessments related to key and critical IT systems and networks
  10. Supporting IT/OT data and cyber security awareness programs through presentation and education
  11. Reviewing items posted to the corporate web page to determine if they represent a security risk
  12. Assisting the Director of Business Information Technology in assessing IT/OT security work programs
Professional Development:
  1. Learning security analysis techniques
  2. Developing skills protecting organizations through policy, procedures, and security tools
  3. Developing skills relating to prioritization based on risk

Discipline: Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Cyber Security

Academic Level: Undergraduate in 3rd year or higher.

Essential Knowledge:
  1. Computer Skills (Microsoft Office – Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  2. Strong organizational and communication skills
Desirable Knowledge and Experience:
  1. Prior work experience in or familiarity with the utility industry
  2. An understanding of information security principles and processes
  3. Knowledge of the NERC CIP Standards or the NIST Cybersecurity framework
  4. Understanding of regulatory standards and auditing process
