Wine Consultant Job Description

Otter Co-op is seeking a highly skilled Wine Consultant to join our team at our 248th Liquor Store in Langley, BC. As a Wine Consultant, you will play a key role in providing expert advice and guidance to our team members and guests, while also supporting the development of our wine program.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement educational programs for team members and guests, focusing on wine knowledge and sales techniques.
  • Support private functions in the tasting center, ensuring exceptional customer service and a memorable experience.
  • Collaborate with Wine Buyers to manage the purchasing, selling, and distribution of the personal wine locker program.
  • Interact with guests on the sales floor, providing expert advice and creating ongoing relationships with key wine purchasers.
  • Maintain current industry and product knowledge through periodicals, meetings, and industry events.
  • Create new or enhance existing programs or technologies to improve the experience of team members and guests.
  • Maintain a booking calendar for the tasting rooms, ensuring seamless execution of educational classes and private functions.
  • Lead and inspire the team to achieve the 4 Keys to Excellence.
  • Contribute to the team's commitment to living the Corporate Values of Integrity, Community, and Excellence.
Requirements:
  • Recognized wine education designation (WSET 3 preferred or WSET 2 with a strong passion for wine).
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the liquor industry.
  • Experience hosting wine seminars and public events is an asset.
  • Retail wine and spirits experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the ability to manage computer files efficiently.
  • Effective interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Motivation and ability to work in a busy environment.
  • Effective planning, organization, and time management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrate the ability to maintain relationships outside of the organization that supports the organization.
  • Enjoy working with the public.
  • Ability to physically lift, push, pull up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis and stand for full 8-hour shifts.
  • Must be committed to a SAFE working environment.
  • MUST be over 19 years of age to be considered.
  • MUST have open availability and be able to work a variety of shifts that include mornings, afternoons, and evenings till 8 pm.
  • This position is based out of our 248th Liquor Store, though it may require occasional travel and work at other locations as business needs arise.
