Role Summary:

The Propane Systems Technician engages with both residential and commercial clients, installing and maintaining a variety of propane-dependent systems, including tanks and appliances. A minimum of G2 certification is required, with comprehensive training provided for all other necessary skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Commence your day with a team briefing at the branch, discussing safety topics, reviewing previous work, sharing industry updates, and addressing any company communications, including upcoming training opportunities.
  • Prepare for your daily assignments by reviewing your schedule, conducting pre-trip vehicle inspections, and gathering necessary materials such as fittings, pipes, and tanks.
  • Collaborate closely with dispatchers, supervisors, and senior technicians to complete service calls safely and efficiently, adhering to all relevant codes, standards, and company policies.
  • Provide professional and courteous service to customers and business partners, ensuring exceptional customer satisfaction and teamwork to complete tasks accurately.
  • Responsibilities include installing piping and tanks, connecting pre-installed equipment, and installing appliances such as fireplaces and furnaces (training provided). Tasks may also involve gas inspections, maintenance, and service calls for heating and hot water issues, with trenching required occasionally and assistance available for two-person tasks.
  • Utilize company-provided devices to complete invoices and necessary forms promptly after each service call.
  • Maintain communication with dispatch and supervisors throughout the day to assist colleagues or respond to urgent service requests as needed.
  • Conclude your day by returning to the branch to unload your vehicle, conduct post-trip inspections, and ensure the vehicle is clean and well-maintained.
  • Participate in monthly inspections of propane bulk plants to verify operational safety, including testing bonding, fittings, and emergency procedures.
  • Engage in all training and professional development activities to stay current with industry standards, including TSSA Standards and CSA B149 Code.
  • Actively adhere to company safety protocols and utilize all provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as instructed.
  • Report any observed unsafe practices, including accidents and safety concerns.
  • Parkland provides extensive training, including Propane Pump Attendant Training and Cylinder Inspection, with support available for those seeking G1 licensing to advance their careers.

Qualifications:

  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team player is required.
  • G2 certification is the minimum requirement; all other training will be provided by Parkland.
  • G1 licensed candidates are encouraged to apply.
  • Prior experience in appliance installation is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Must be able to lift at least 60 lbs occasionally.
  • Comfortable with the physical demands and outdoor nature of the role.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and be on-call as necessary.
  • A valid G license is required; a DZ license is a plus.
  • Must possess a clean Drivers Abstract and/or CVOR, both in good standing.
