Position: Chief Executive Officer
Compensation: $115,000- $120,000 Note: This position is also available as a 4 day/ week position at a prorated salary.

Role Structure: Hybrid, with a requirement of being present in the office at least 3 days per week.

Direct Reports: 5 program managers and administrative managers.

About Us: The HEAL Project (THP) is dedicated to educating elementary school children in San Mateo County about the origins of their food and its significance through engaging, hands-on educational programs in classrooms, gardens, and at the San Mateo County School Farm. Our initiatives promote healthy lifestyle choices while fostering environmental and agricultural awareness through a dynamic, interactive curriculum.

Current Fiscal Year Budget: $850,000

Staff Composition: 12 full-time and part-time staff members, alongside 1 independent contractor, totaling 7 full-time equivalents.

Current Focus: The HEAL Project's experienced team is committed to directing resources toward the highest need public schools. We are exploring innovative ways to enhance our impact on students in collaboration with a diverse range of youth service providers.

Ideal Candidate: We are in search of a seasoned leader with exceptional interpersonal skills and a proven history of success in fundraising, team leadership, and advancing our mission. A shared enthusiasm for gardening, cooking, youth education, and conservation work is highly valued.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Leadership: Inspire and cultivate enthusiasm for our mission among stakeholders, including staff, board members, volunteers, and donors, encouraging them to engage with and support our initiatives.
  2. Foster a cohesive organizational culture that promotes inclusivity and a sense of belonging.
  3. Act as a representative of The HEAL Project within the broader community, engaging in networking opportunities and building relationships with key stakeholders.
  4. Board Collaboration: Strengthen partnerships with the Board of Directors, equipping each member with the necessary resources and training to serve as effective ambassadors.
  5. Engage actively with key Board committees to achieve shared objectives.
  6. Vision and Strategy: Collaborate with the board and staff to establish a compelling vision for the future that aligns with our mission.
  7. Work with staff to develop strategic goals and annual plans that guide the organization's activities.
  8. Management and Development: Build and lead a diverse and effective team committed to our mission, ensuring staff have the necessary skills and support.
  9. Facilitate regular feedback opportunities with staff.
  10. Ensure each staff member has a professional development plan.
  11. Establish effective protocols for meetings and decision-making processes.
  12. Oversee the annual professional review cycle.
  13. Impact Assessment: Collaborate with Program Managers to ensure alignment of programs with The HEAL Project's mission.
  14. Implement systems for program evaluation and adapt to the needs of our students and community.
  15. Resource Development: Serve as the chief fundraiser, collaborating with the Board and staff to organize annual fundraising events and develop a comprehensive fundraising strategy.
  16. Identify and cultivate donor prospects and implement effective donor retention strategies.
  17. Work with the team to pursue grant funding and manage grant reporting.
  18. Financial Oversight: Collaborate with financial staff to ensure accurate financial management and reporting.
  19. Assist in the creation of the annual budget and communicate financial information clearly to staff and board.
Essential Qualifications:
  1. 3-5 years of experience in a director-level role, with prior executive experience preferred.
  2. Experience in staff management and board collaboration.
  3. Proven ability to create and implement strategic plans.
  4. Strong financial acumen.
  5. Demonstrated success in donor development, including securing significant contributions.
  6. Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  7. Bachelor's degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. 5-7 years of experience in a director-level position.
  2. Advanced degree.
  3. Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
  4. Relevant degree or equivalent experience is strongly preferred.
Basic Eligibility:
  1. Must be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States.
  2. Must test negative for Tuberculosis.
  3. Must pass a background check to work with children.
Travel Requirements:

Staff are responsible for their own transportation to job sites, with reimbursement provided for travel outside designated areas.

Physical and Mental Demands:

This role requires physical activity, including bending, lifting, and manual dexterity. Ability to communicate effectively with students and maintain accurate records is essential.
