Key Responsibilities:
The District of West Kelowna is seeking a knowledgeable and customer-oriented professional to become part of our Building Division on a full-time basis. We are looking for a Level III Building Inspector; however, candidates currently enrolled in the BOIT program or those holding a Level II BOABC certification nearing Level III certification will also be considered. In this role, you will be responsible for evaluating building permit and business license submissions to ensure adherence to building and zoning regulations, as well as the B.C. Building and Plumbing Codes. Your duties will also encompass conducting plan reviews, issuing building permits, and engaging with homeowners, contractors, and consultants regarding construction modifications and repairs. Success in this position requires a solid understanding of construction techniques and the ability to interpret plans effectively to provide technical guidance on a diverse range of building projects. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential to enhance your customer service capabilities. Ideal Candidate Profile:
  • Level III certification from the Building Officials Association of B.C. and Level I certification from the Plumbing Officials Association of B.C., or a comparable combination of education and experience
  • Journeyman certification in one or more recognized construction trades or a diploma in Civil and Structural Engineering or equivalent
  • At least 5 years of experience in a relevant role
  • Valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's License
  • Current Police Information Check
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Capacity to demonstrate courtesy, tact, and diplomacy in challenging situations
