The Application Specialist is a vital contributor to the Digital Software Services (DSS) team at UHN. This role is essential in supporting various clinical and operational applications within the organization. The Application Specialist acts as a liaison between business requirements and technological solutions, particularly within the LIS department. Key responsibilities include providing exceptional customer service, managing incidents, conducting system analysis, and participating in system upgrades and testing.

The Application Specialist collaborates closely with business stakeholders and subject matter experts to ensure optimal system performance and reliability. Responsibilities encompass gathering and analyzing information related to clinical workflows and business processes, configuring systems accordingly, and documenting policies to enhance user experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of supported applications.
  • Provide daily support and resolve complex issues.
  • Assist end users with application-related challenges.
  • Develop and maintain training programs and documentation.
  • Coordinate various testing types for new releases and changes.
  • Participate in the design and maintenance of LIS systems.
  • Manage servers and databases for supported systems.
  • Utilize expertise to generate queries and reports for data monitoring.
  • Address system workflow issues and guide implementation of changes.
  • Collaborate with management to ensure outstanding customer service.
  • Communicate with external vendors to meet business requirements.
  • Contribute to policy and procedure development.
  • Create training materials to enhance application support.
  • Document system issues and resolutions for future reference.
  • Participate in an on-call support roster.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate Degree in Computer Science, Health Informatics, or related field.
  • Certification in Epic Beaker is required.
  • 2-3 years of experience in application support is essential.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Familiarity with clinical systems and healthcare processes.
  • Proficient in software tools such as Microsoft Office and Visio.
