Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Licensed Vocational Nurse II to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide complex care to individuals with mental health, behavioral, and medical diagnoses.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide highly complex vocational nursing work, including administering medications and treatments, and performing health screenings.
  • Collect specimens for lab work and conduct health screenings.
  • Instruct psychiatric nursing assistants and other staff on how to provide service and care that support individual needs.
  • Perform technical nursing procedures according to facility and state regulations.
  • Keep informed of and follow all agency, facility, and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Provide direction and assist with on-the-job training to others, including newly hired LVNs and direct care staff.
  • Assist Registered Nurses with implementation of protocols, procedures, and programs to improve overall health and safety of staff and individuals.
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of nursing care standards, nursing procedures, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures and emergency equipment, including CPR.
  • Skills in using reasoning to identify problems and considering appropriate resolution of situations.
  • Ability to provide patient care to a wide variety of individuals with complex medical, mental health, and/or behavioral health issues.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records and use an electronic health record system.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and instruct others.
Working Conditions:

This position may be eligible to earn additional pay for work performed on evenings, nights, and/or weekends. The position may also be eligible to earn additional pay for work performed on maximum security locations.
