Job Title: Senior Urban Designer

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Urban Designer to join our team at IBI Group. As a Senior Urban Designer, you will play a key role in shaping the built environment and creating sustainable, livable communities.

About the Role

The successful candidate will have a strong background in urban design, with a proven track record of leading and managing multi-disciplinary teams. You will be responsible for developing and implementing urban design strategies, working closely with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams to deliver high-quality projects.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and collaborating with senior leadership to develop creative content for RFP responses and supporting marketing and business development initiatives.
  • Mentoring junior urban designers, planners, and landscape architects on a variety of private and public sector projects.
  • Independently managing and leading multi-disciplinary teams to deliver projects from initial proposal compilation to detailed design and report delivery.
  • Developing master plans, site plans, and built form and massing for a range of projects.
  • Preparing and presenting high-quality graphic presentations, detailed design schemes, and reports.
  • Engaging with clients and stakeholders to ensure deadlines and budgetary constraints are met.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A university degree in architecture, urban design, landscape architecture, or planning.
  • 10+ years of experience in urban design or a related field, with a proven track record of leading and managing multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated success working with public and private sector clients in the Ottawa region.
  • Professional registration with OALA or OAA or OPPI.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to mentor and guide junior team members.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams.
