Job Description

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated students to join our Recreation Services team as Jr. Recreation Staff Students for the summer of 2024. This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable work experience, develop new skills, and make a positive impact in our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in various areas within Recreation Services, including camps, aquatics, and Play Pod programs.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and ensure a positive experience for program participants.
  • Assist with special event preparation and delivery tasks, including setup and cleanup.
  • Implement the philosophies of HIGH FIVE and promote healthy child development.
  • Attend all staff training sessions and meetings to ensure a comprehensive understanding of Recreation Services policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate program participation statistics and enforce rules consistently and tactfully.
  • Follow all policies and procedures outlined in the CK REC Summer Manuals.
  • Assist with handling concerns and provide excellent customer service.
Essential Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in school full-time for the 2023/2024 winter term or returning to school full-time in the 2024 fall term.
  • 14 years of age or older (16 years of age or older for some camp locations).
  • Ability to provide transportation to and from various locations.
Certifications/Memberships/Licenses
  • Current Certification in Standard First Aid/CPR (WSIB approved).
  • Certified with the High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development.
Work Environment/Hours of Work
  • This position works both indoors and outdoors.
  • This position works weekday hours, with afternoon, evening, and weekend hours.
COVID-19 Vaccination

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent no longer requires a COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment. Although it is not mandatory to be vaccinated, it is highly encouraged.

Driver's Licence/Vehicle Requirements

A valid Province of Ontario driver's licence with a reliable motor vehicle is preferred.

Background Check Requirements

The successful candidate will be required to furnish an original vulnerable sector Police Information Search (criminal reference check) prior to commencement of employment.

Essential Physical and/or Safety Requirements
  • Maintenance (wearing proper footwear and PPE).
  • Completion of Health & Safety course.
  • Protecting self from the sun (sunscreen, hat, and hydrating with water).
  • Non-slip footwear (no crocs, spongy flip flops, etc.).
  • Closed-toed shoes (no crocs, flip flops, etc.).
  • Bending: frequent crouching (up to 13.64 kgs or 30 lbs cleaning and setting up equipment/toys).
  • Walking: frequent balancing; constant walking on level surface.
  • Throwing (up to 22.73 kgs or 50 lbs).
  • Standing: frequent standing inside, outside (more than 30 minutes at a time).
