Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Locomotive Budget and Reporting Specialist to join our team at Canadian Pacific Railway. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for leading the strategic forecasting, tracking, and reporting of operational and capital expenditures for the Mechanical Locomotive department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and optimize budgetary spend to ensure maximum locomotive availability, adhering to both budgetary constraints and regulatory requirements.
  • Process and validate invoicing associated with long-term parts agreements, including third-party agreements.
  • Ensure accurate warranty tracking for materials per contract and file warranty claims regularly.
  • Manage outsourced locomotive maintenance activities or repairs, including negotiating changes to contracts and ensuring effective cross-billing of charges.
  • Implement improvements in operational effectiveness through lean continuous improvement, system and standard setting, performance scorecards, and process management.
  • Ensure accounting and reporting processes comply with applicable internal control requirements.
  • Identify and analyze improvements to processes and implement selected solutions.
  • Lead the monthly budget outlook for associated locomotive maintenance materials and third-party expenses.
  • Prepare and present detailed financial reports and forecasts to executive leadership, offering actionable recommendations.
  • Lead annual operational and capital expenditure budget planning for locomotive maintenance, servicing, and overhauls, locomotive facility infrastructure, and shop equipment improvements and replacements.
  • Liaise between mechanical, finance, HR, and other business divisions as needed.
  • Manage the development and execution of multi-year capital and strategic maintenance initiatives to improve locomotive servicing and repair capabilities.
  • Support the justification of equipment modifications and changes to maintenance procedures.
  • Participate in locomotive long-term planning teams.
Requirements
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in commerce, accounting, finance, economics, mathematics, engineering, or a relevant field.
  • Accounting designation considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in budget management, financial forecasting, and operational oversight, preferably within the transportation or mechanical engineering sector.
  • Proven track record of managing large-scale operational and capital expenditures.
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel modeling.
  • SAP or other related ERP experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in BPC or other financial management software and tools.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide strategic insights.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and relationship management skills.
  • Experience with process improvement methodologies such as lean or six sigma.
  • Knowledge of railway or heavy equipment industries considered an asset.
