Position Overview

As a Risk Management Consultant within our Mid-Market & Aviva Business division, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Aviva Risk Management Solutions (ARMS) team and the associated underwriting community. Your primary responsibility will be to conduct comprehensive surveys and produce detailed risk assessment reports.

This position offers flexibility as it is home-based, with regular travel to client locations within Alberta and occasionally across other regions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct a variety of field surveys related to property, casualty, product liability, contractor, and builder's risk, generating thorough risk management and underwriting reports.
  • Create technical property risk engineering reports and related documentation based on field survey findings.
  • Occasionally manage account portfolios while providing field-level risk consulting to meet Aviva's prevention and underwriting standards.
  • Offer technical support to underwriting teams and assist in addressing identified property risk engineering issues.
  • Ensure that risk engineering services adhere to ARMS standards, maintaining high quality, timeliness, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with management, colleagues, and partners to enhance risk and insurance services.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in a relevant technical field.
  • Proficient in interpreting sprinkler, fire pump, and suppression system plans, as well as hydraulic reviews.
  • Ability to read and understand architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical blueprints.
  • Competent in MS Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong technical writing capabilities.
  • Familiarity with various IT systems utilized within Aviva, such as Loss Control 360 and Claims Center.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, essential for building and maintaining relationships with peers, clients, and industry professionals.
  • Proven ability to foster internal and external relationships, communicate effectively, and lead initiatives.
  • Valid driver's license and passport (or the ability to obtain one for potential international travel).
  • Willingness to travel within the Calgary/Alberta region (75%) and nationally (up to 25%) as needed.
  • Over 10 years of experience in conducting property and casualty surveys for middle market risks.
  • Solid understanding of property and product liability risks in sectors such as manufacturing, warehousing, and wholesale operations.
  • Knowledge of Canadian building/fire codes and NFPA standards, with the ability to apply recognized industry standards.
  • Understanding of Loss Scenario Engineering principles.
  • Progressing towards (or having achieved) an advanced technical degree or professional risk management certification (CET, NICET, CFPS, CRM, CIP).
  • Experience in account management.
  • Familiarity with contractors and builder's risk.
  • Ability to analyze business interruption and extra expense documentation.
