About the Role

The City of Vancouver is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Social Planner I to support the implementation of our Healthy City Strategy, Downtown Eastside Plan, and other community development initiatives. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in fostering partnerships, developing strategies, and evaluating programs to address social issues in Vancouver's lower-income communities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Community Development and Partnerships: Develop and foster partnerships with community organizations, non-profits, and stakeholders to create employment, capacity building, and income generating opportunities for residents from equity denied communities.
  • Community Engagement and Research: Participate in and facilitate community engagement processes, conduct research, and analyze data to inform policy and program development.
  • Policy and Program Development: Develop and implement policies, programs, and initiatives to address social issues, including poverty, income, peer-employment, and well-being.
  • Project Management and Coordination: Manage projects, coordinate with stakeholders, and ensure effective implementation of programs and initiatives.
  • Communication and Reporting: Prepare and present reports, briefings, and other materials to stakeholders, including City Council, senior staff, and community partners.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: Master's or Bachelor's degree in social planning, community development, community economic development, geography, social work, or public health, with relevant experience in community capacity building, research, and policy development.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Considerable knowledge of social determinants of health, community development processes, and social policy development. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to build positive working relationships and community networks.
