Senior Project Engineer


**Job Summary**

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Project Engineer to join our Water Services Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing dam safety regulatory compliance activities and documents for Metro Vancouver's dams, leading and overseeing complex projects, and supervising and coaching junior staff.


**Key Responsibilities**

  • Perform complex and varied engineering and project management work, including project design and management for large projects.
  • Analyze and assess project or program requirements and recommend optimal methods for achieving objectives.
  • Responsible for overall project budgets and monitors and controls costs ensuring the effective and efficient expenditure of allocated funds.
  • Makes decisions and provides recommendations on a variety of issues with broad policies and mandates as guidelines.
  • Prepares and reviews project designs, technical reports, and contract specifications for consulting services, equipment, and construction.
  • Acts as Metro Vancouver's appointed representative in assigned matters of project and contract obligations.
  • Procures and directs the actions of consultants, recommending changes to scope and negotiating new terms as required.
  • Deals with a full range of project dimensions, including legal, property, public contact, and liaising with various levels of government and other regulatory bodies.
  • Explains difficult concepts and persuades others to adopt a point of view or way of doing things.
  • May supervise professional engineers and/or technical staff engaged in complex technical work.
  • Peer reviews the work of colleagues and provides guidance to consulting engineers and technical staff.
  • Acts as a resource to staff members for advice and guidance on potential approaches and problem situations.


**Requirements**

  • A Bachelor of Applied Science degree in a relevant engineering discipline, such as hydrotechnical, environmental, geotechnical, civil, or geological.
  • 4-6 years of recent related experience following professional registration, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Membership or eligibility for immediate membership as a registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with the Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC).
  • Sound technical knowledge and understanding of engineering principles and their application in relevant disciplines.
  • Ability to interpret and apply engineering and technical guidelines and principles related to Dam Safety Engineering.
  • Proven contract administration and project management skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain respectful working relationships with internal and external contacts.
  • Ability to work under broad direction and use significant independent judgment to problem solve.
  • Ability to identify opportunities to address emerging needs and take initiative to work cooperatively with minimal supervision.
