Marine Operations Specialist

About the Opportunity:
The Mate plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and secure operation of our passenger vessels in the Niagara Gorge. This position requires a dynamic and adaptable individual who can embody City Experiences' RESPECT Service System.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate the vessel in accordance with Transport Canada regulations and City Experiences' Safety Management System.
- Work collaboratively with crew members to maintain a safe and secure environment for passengers and crew.
- Conduct regular inspections of the vessel to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
- Participate in training and emergency drills to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of vessel operations and maintenance.
- Provide feedback and coaching to Deckhands to ensure they are working safely and efficiently.
- Ensure a clean and organized workspace throughout the day.
- Fulfill role of Crew with Engineering Responsibilities on board.
- Report non-conformities to the Designated Person (Manager, Marine Operations).
- Ensure the safe operation of the vessel at all times.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Minimum Transport Canada Mate 150 Gross Tonnage certificate.
- Consideration will be given to candidates with a Mate Limited over 60 Gross Tonnage certificate who possess sufficient supporting experience.
- Current Marine Basic First Aid.
- Current Transport Canada approved medical for domestic operations.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in the marine environment.
- Ships Security Officer Certificate an asset.
- Small Vessel Machinery Operator license an asset.
- Ability to successfully complete a criminal background check.
- A positive attitude and good work ethic.
- Ability to reach, bend, stoop, wipe, push, pull, move or lift up to 45 pounds (20 kilograms).
- Walk, stand, sit and work in all types of weather conditions for extended periods.
- Continually and repeatedly perform functions indoors and outdoors.
- Ability to wear assigned Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
