Unit Overview

As a vital component of a Regional Cancer Program, the Radiation Therapy and Treatment Planning Department at Hamilton Health Sciences is a progressive unit dedicated to delivering advanced planning, simulation, and treatment options for both external beam radiation and brachytherapy. Our department encompasses a School of Radiation Therapy, featuring Clinical Coordinators and a dedicated team of professionals, including Radiation Therapists, Treatment Planners, Nurses, Mould Room Technicians, Clerks, Secretaries, and Health Care Aides. Our state-of-the-art facilities include 3 CT Simulators, 1 MRI Simulator, a cutting-edge treatment planning system, 10 Varian Linear Accelerators, an Ortho-Voltage machine, an HDR Brachytherapy suite, and a CyberKnife unit.

Position Responsibilities

The Radiation Therapist will be responsible for a variety of essential tasks, including:

  • Evaluating and educating patients regarding their treatment plans.
  • Planning and administering radiation therapy treatments.
  • Documenting treatment prescriptions and relevant patient information.
  • Actively participating in the education of undergraduate students, quality assurance initiatives, research, and ongoing professional development.
  • Performing additional related duties as assigned.

Work Schedule

Monday to Friday; daytime hours.

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates must possess the following:

  • Current registration as a Radiation Therapist with the CMRTO.
  • Preferred membership with OAMRT and CAMRT.
  • Mandatory current BCLS certification with ongoing re-certification.
  • A minimum of 3 years of recent and relevant experience as a Radiation Therapist.
  • MRI Certification is preferred.
  • IV Insertion Certification is an asset.
  • Recent volunteer involvement in relevant Radiation Therapy working groups or committees.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional growth.
  • Exceptional technical, communication, patient assessment, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities.
  • Proven adaptability, compassion, and initiative in patient interactions.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Familiarity with computer systems and general office software.
