Position Overview

The Community Outreach Worker plays a pivotal role in providing essential clinical services to adults and their families impacted by mental health challenges, substance use, or gambling disorders. This position involves working in both clinical and community environments, delivering a comprehensive array of services such as screening, assessment, brief intervention, case management, and both individual and group therapy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough screenings and assessments to identify client needs.
  • Implement brief intervention strategies and manage cases effectively.
  • Facilitate individual and group treatment sessions, focusing on recovery and harm reduction.
  • Support individuals experiencing homelessness and those residing in encampments.
  • Act as a liaison for clients, advocating for their needs and coordinating resources within the Mental Health and Addictions framework.
  • Utilize principles of community development and psychosocial rehabilitation in practice.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work or a related field.
  • Eligibility for registration with a professional regulatory body.
  • A minimum of one year of post-BSW clinical experience in Mental Health and Addictions; a Master's degree is advantageous.
  • Proficient in screening and risk assessment, including suicide risk evaluation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with strong assessment and intervention skills.
  • Familiarity with the DSM and experience in harm reduction strategies.
  • Ability to de-escalate crises and provide crisis support.
  • Understanding of the challenges faced by the unhoused population.
  • Experience in group facilitation and motivational interviewing techniques.
  • Knowledge of community resources and program development methods.
  • Commitment to recovery-oriented practices and client-centered care.
  • Awareness of social determinants of health and their impact on decision-making.
  • Experience with trauma-informed care approaches.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to foster collaborative relationships.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities and sound clinical judgment.
  • Competency in additional languages is a plus; proficiency in French is preferred.
  • Access to reliable transportation for community outreach.

Work Schedule

  • Casual full-time assignment; 75 hours biweekly.
  • Position requires significant travel for community outreach.

Compensation

Hourly wage of $42.01.
