Residential Counsellor Position

Broadview Village, a leading provider of support services for adults with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges, is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Full-Time Residential Counsellor to join our team.
About the Role:This is a full-time position that requires a passionate and initiative-driven individual to create and implement programming in areas such as personal care and hygiene, advocacy, and community integration. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with a team and stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, consultants, colleagues, community members, family members, and friends.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide support for residents' personal development through individual support planning and advocacy.
- Complete documentation and maintain records as required.
- Administer medication as needed.
- Ensure learning opportunities are provided using agency and community resources.
- Foster independence in residents, including supervising and assisting with meal preparation and clean-up.
- Maintain cleanliness of the program/site and ensure health and safety protocols are followed.
- Provide orientation and support to co-workers, students, volunteers, and family members.
- Follow and promote the agency's and House program's goals and philosophy.
The successful candidate will be exposed to a fast-paced environment with varying levels of noise, dirt, bodily fluids, and odours. They will also be required to handle garbage and deal with angry and abusive individuals.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:- A completed Developmental Services Worker Diploma or other degree/diploma related to human services is preferred.
- A valid and current Standard First Aid Certificate and CPR Level C Certificate are required.
- The ability to achieve a Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certificate upon hire is necessary.
- A minimum of 6-12 months' experience working with people with developmental disabilities and preferably those with dual diagnoses of mental health challenges and developmental disabilities.
- Experience with implementing Individual Support Plans is essential.
- Medication administration experience is preferred.
- Strong counselling and de-escalation support skills are required.
- The ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully is necessary.
- The ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
