Position Overview:

The Recreation Leaders play a vital role in promoting active living and community engagement through various recreational programs. This position involves assisting in the management of attendance records and ensuring effective communication with the Recreation Coordinator or Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the execution of diverse recreational activities including after-school programs, sports, arts and crafts, and seasonal camps.
  • Monitor participant behavior and enforce relevant policies to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment.
  • Implement lesson plans as directed by supervisory staff, ensuring that all activities are tailored to meet the needs of participants.
  • Assist in the preparation and distribution of snacks, while maintaining cleanliness and organization of program materials.
  • Demonstrate strong decision-making skills, addressing conflicts and challenges effectively.
  • Prioritize the safety and well-being of all participants, proactively identifying and mitigating potential risks.
  • Act as a point of contact for parents, fostering positive relationships and promoting inclusivity.
  • Adhere to organizational policies and procedures during all program activities.
  • Maintain constructive relationships with colleagues and community members.
  • Engage in training and orientation sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum age of 15 years, currently enrolled in secondary education or higher learning institution.
  • Certification in Standard First Aid with CPR Level C is required prior to starting.
  • Completion of HIGH FIVE training related to child development is expected within two months of hire.
  • Experience working with children and knowledge of recreational activities is preferred.
  • Leadership experience, such as participation in student councils or youth organizations, is advantageous.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to design and adapt program plans to suit daily needs.
  • Strong customer service and time management abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Norfolk County's recreational offerings.
  • Capability to work collaboratively within a team and follow instructions effectively.
  • Commitment to courteous public interaction.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Understanding of safe work practices and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
