Job Title: Health and Safety Officer

The MEARIE Group is seeking a highly skilled Health and Safety Officer to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for overseeing the administration of Occupational Health and Safety, Liability Insurance, Security, Environmental Protection, and Emergency Preparedness programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Foster a healthy and safe work environment and maintain high standards for health and safety.
  • Develop, implement, and manage health and safety policies and procedures in compliance with applicable legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement strategies to mitigate hazards.
  • Develop, implement, and train employees on health and safety programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Identify hazards and trends in the workplace and participate as a resource on the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
  • Coordinate WSIB and occupational injury claims, and develop and manage the Early and Safe Return to Work Program.
  • Oversee liability property and vehicle claims from customers and the public.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of a 3-year post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field from a recognized educational institution.
  • Trades background, particularly in Powerline or Electrical, would be an asset.
  • Certification in health and safety management (i.e. CRST or CRSP) would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience with health and safety management on construction projects.
  • Broad knowledge of station and high voltage equipment, and familiarity with OHSA, IHSA Utility Safety Rule Book, Work Protection Code, and other applicable legislation.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team with excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
  • Bilingualism (French/English) both oral and written, would be an asset.
