West Coast Reduction Ltd. is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Production Superintendent to join our team at our Saskatoon plant location.
Job SummaryThe Production Superintendent will be responsible for the overall management of the Production and Rendering Department, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the plant. This role will require strong leadership and communication skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with a team to achieve company goals.
Key Responsibilities- Direct supervision of Shift Leads and Lead Hands
- Supervise rendering production teams to ensure Standard Operating Procedures are followed
- Assist with monitoring of boiler, wastewater, air compression, and air pollution performance
- Coordinate with Fleet & Transportation Department to ensure efficient processing of raw products and finished goods
- Work closely with Maintenance Department in scheduling, repair, and installation activities related to rendering equipment
- Prepare and adhere to operating labour budgets for the Production Department
- Maintain and develop a production facility and workforce capable of meeting production requirements
- Develop an operating plan for the Production Department and initiate action to operate within those plans
- Ensure project and department milestones, goals are met and adhered to with respect to previously set budgets
- Prepare and maintain reports, reconciliations, and recommendations for yield adjustments
- Delegate authority and responsibility to direct reports and coordinate production, maintenance, and transportation activities
- Solve problems involving workflow, utilization of personnel skills, systems, and facility to ensure an efficient and expedient production process
- Coordinate productive daily, weekly, and/or monthly meetings with Shift Leads, Lead Hands, and production staff
- Schedule training and maintain training records of all employees in the production department
- Ensure the Production Department's systems and processes are operating within the guidelines of our CFIA operating permit, HACCP program, and other regulatory requirements
- Oversee entire rendering production at the Saskatoon Plant, ensuring product quality control standards are met
- Administration and record keeping of HACCP, CFIA, and other pertinent documents related to applicable Municipal, Provincial, National, and International governance
- Act in liaison between management and the production workforce to keep Plant Manager informed
- Supervise and train supervisory personnel by directing their activities, and through them the activities of the entire Production Department
- Manage payroll time-keeping records for department employees within the payroll software system
- Final time-approver for payroll submission and provide authorization of overtime shifts or vacation approvals
- Recruit, hire, and train the necessary personnel to staff the department to the forecasted level of operation
- People development and active performance management of department staff in conjunction with other Divisional Management
- Provide leadership to other plant employees to maintain productivity, while limiting and resolving conflicts
- Ensure that employees and operations are conducted safely and responsibly within the corporate programs and procedures of safety and best management practices
- Assist in the implementation of safety procedural changes in addition to providing recommendations on improvements to Health and Safety Coordinator
- Encourage a safety culture where employees do not put themselves or others at risk
- Assist Plant Manager with major budget expenditures and submission of requisitions for day-to-day purchasing requirements
- Provide back-up relief of Plant Manager responsibilities during absences
- Adhere to the company Code of Conduct and all West Coast Reduction Ltd. Policies
