The Mechanical Maintenance Specialist is tasked with executing maintenance and repairs on machinery and equipment, alongside conducting preventative maintenance and inspections on various systems, including compressors, hydraulic systems, and electrical apparatus.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proven experience as an industrial maintenance technician or in a comparable position. (Relevant education and training may also be considered).
  • Post-secondary education in the mechanical engineering field is advantageous.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Proficiency in using both electrical and manual tools (hoists, saws, drills, etc.).
  • Capability to interpret blueprints, maintenance work orders, and repair manuals as necessary.
  • Skill in maintaining and repairing machinery and equipment.
  • Knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, and mechanical systems.
  • Experience in lathe and milling operations, electrical work, welding, and plumbing is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with lifting equipment, such as cranes and hoists.
  • Basic mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and conversions of fractions and decimals are essential.
  • Certification as a FORKLIFT OPERATOR and OVERHEAD CRANE OPERATOR is mandatory.
  • Availability to work all shifts – days, afternoons, and midnights is required.
  • Willingness to assist in other departments on a temporary basis as directed by management.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure the functionality of machinery and mechanical equipment. Conduct routine inspections, perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot, replace, install, and maintain:
  • Machinery, belts, and worn components, including greasing, lubrication, adjustments, and cleaning.
  • Plumbing and ventilation systems.
  • Gauges, valves, and pressure regulators.
  • Physical structures, including fixtures, fences, gates, and roofs.
  • Electrical repairs and troubleshooting in accordance with relevant codes, blueprints, and manuals.
  • Power transmission and associated components.
  • Hydraulic systems, air compressors, vacuum pumps, and high-pressure wash equipment.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols (i.e., lockout procedures) when performing work on equipment.
  • Maintain an up-to-date preventative maintenance schedule.
  • Document all updates in the Preventative Maintenance Log.
  • Fabricate repair components using machine shop tools and equipment.
  • Repair and maintain physical structures including fences, gates, and roofs.
  • Execute electrical repairs and troubleshooting in accordance with relevant codes, blueprints, and manuals.
  • Conduct metal fabrication tasks including layout, drilling, tapping, sawing, and grinding.
  • Perform welding and flame cutting operations applicable to MIG, stick, oxy-acetylene, and plasma cutting techniques.
  • Ability to work at heights using scissor lifts and articulated lifts.
  • Comply with all company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Maintain a tidy work environment.
  • Supervise contractors for professional repairs when necessary.

  • Previous knowledge and experience with 5S and Lean Manufacturing principles are considered advantageous.
