Water Safety Specialist

**Job Summary:**
The Water Safety Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the safety of patrons at the swimming pool. This includes water safety education, accident prevention, and rescue, as and when required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain a culture of safety and enjoyment at the Aquatic Centre, including informing the public of potential hazards and monitoring and enforcing safe actions and behavior.
- Perform rescues as required and examine injured persons, administering first aid or cardiopulmonary resuscitation as necessary.
- Maintain the facility to ensure the swimming pool is safe and clean, including conducting water chemistry tests and adjusting as required.
- Support the Aquatics Supervisor in monitoring and maintaining supplies inventory required for swim programs, chemicals, first aid, and cleaning.
- Inspect facilities daily to ensure safety standards are met, as per NWT Public Pool Regulations.
Requirements:
- Excellent customer service and public relations skills
- Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Effective communications skills
- Instructor courses (Swim & Lifesaving Instructor course)
- Ability to use Strantrol system and know how to backwash systems
- Ability to increase and decrease chlorine
Qualifications:
- Aquatic Emergency Care (Standard First Aid & CPR C)
- National Lifeguard Certification – Pool
- WHMIS training, emergency procedures training
Working Conditions:
- Physical Demands: The Water Safety Specialist will be expected to supervise, oversee, and monitor swimming programs, lift, carry, and manage equipment and supplies, and practice lifesaving techniques.
- Environmental Conditions: The Water Safety Specialist may find the environments to be busy, noisy, and will need excellent organizational, time, and stress management skills to complete the required tasks.
- Sensory Demands: The Water Safety Specialist may be required to handle various chemicals, including chlorine, which have powerful odors.
- Mental Demands: The Water Safety Specialist will have to manage a number of requests and situations at one time, which may cause stress and the need to multi-task.
