Job Summary

The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for managing payroll operations within a timely and accurate manner, conforming to fiscal rules and regulations, as well as company policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out activities relating to Canadian and US payroll production within the required deadlines in accordance with fiscal regulations and company policies and procedures.
  • Enter data for Family Support and garnishment.
  • Reconcile payroll records and solve discrepancies in collaboration with the Finance department if needed.
  • Balance and prepare payments for various suppliers.
  • Production of various monthly reports.
  • Respond to requests from internal and external clients.
  • Participate in year-end activities for the Canadian and US payroll and ensure accurate and timely processing.
  • Participate in the integration, testing, and implementation of payroll system enhancements, interfaces, and tax updates.
  • Participate in special projects as required.

Requirements

  • College diploma in administration or accounting.
  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience in a similar position.
  • Experience with payroll for employees living in another province.
  • Experience with self-processing a volume of 400 employees or more.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Office Software, particularly with Excel.
  • Experience with unionized payroll an asset.
  • Experience with T4/R1 summary production an asset.
  • Experience with DAS remittances an asset.
  • Experience with third-party remittances such as CNESST, WSIB, or EHT an asset.
  • Member of the Canadian Payroll Association or the American Payroll Association is an asset.
  • Experience with a major payroll software application as well as knowledge of the SAP system will be considered a strong asset.
  • Experience with American payroll is an asset.
  • Good knowledge of payroll rules.
