Job Summary

About the Role

The University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine's Division of Continuing Professional Development (UBC CPD) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Education Program Manager to support the development and implementation of innovative education programs and projects. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with provincial and national stakeholder organizations to meet the continuing education and professional learning needs of practicing healthcare professionals in BC and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Management
    • Assess CPD content needs and learning style for BC physicians in a cost-effective, ongoing way, including both perceived and unperceived needs
    • Develop educational strategies for meeting the educational needs of physicians
    • Build networks and positive relationships with key stakeholders and project partners
    • Encourage and incorporate interprofessional education, including nurses, and other healthcare practitioners and providers
    • Implement educational and evaluation strategies
    • Identify areas for new educational programs within the mandate of UBC CPD
    • Lead project evaluation activities to link evaluation with educational development
  • Program Development
    • Develop and implement project management plans
    • Develop and implement business cases for new projects and, if applicable, develop cost-recovery budgets and revenue generation plans
    • Refine and maintain project budgets
    • Develop plans, strategies, partnerships, and other ideas to make programs a reality
    • Assist the organization in seeing new opportunities and new partnerships
    • Create, develop, and schedule programs
    • Design, plan, and implement evaluation strategies and oversee education project evaluation activities
    • Oversee the collection, collation, and analysis of program and evaluation data
  • Marketing and Communications
    • Develop and implement marketing strategies for assigned projects
    • Oversee the development, planning, and implementation of project and program-specific marketing materials, publications, and news articles
    • Ensure programs are financially viable by developing budgets, undertaking activities to amend plans based on projected revenue, and working with financial staff on post-program financial statements
  • Research and Evaluation
    • Work with physicians, nurses, and other allied health professionals in developing research instruments and evaluation tools
    • Develop and conduct surveys
    • Lead or oversee focus groups and conduct key informant interviews
    • Assist in data preparation, collection, entry, and analysis (qualitative and quantitative)
    • Support the preparation of abstracts, manuscripts, and reports (for conferences, funders, and peer-reviewed publication)
  • Grant Writing and Fundraising
    • Identify and develop grant proposals/applications for UBC CPD that would further support the work being done in an educational domain
  • Collaboration and Communication
    • Build and maintain positive and supportive relationships with project partners, organizations, faculty, and community-based coordinators and healthcare providers
    • Work with other UBC CPD portfolios that synergize with the vision of providing quality education to physicians and other healthcare professionals

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline
  • Minimum of four years of related experience in adult education or continuing education programs
  • Experience in the CPD domain with particular sensitivity to the context of healthcare delivery and knowledge of the BC medical system contextualized to practice
  • Ability to connect with physicians and other healthcare professionals
  • Minimum of four years' experience in an administrative role with demonstrated experience in a cost-recovery environment
  • Experience in teaching adults an asset
  • Educational implementation an asset
  • Experience with grant/proposal writing an asset
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat
  • Familiarity with web authoring, design software, and CRM an asset
  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise of information technologies and communications tools
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective instructional design
  • Database experience an asset; data analysis software (SPSS or equivalent) preferred
  • Experience with the requirements and procedures of educational research, including experience with a variety of research traditions and methodologies
  • Experience in working with the medical community

Working Conditions

The incumbent will work in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and deadlines. The ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and work effectively in a team environment is essential. The incumbent will also be required to travel occasionally.
