Community Outreach Intensive Case Management Nurse

**Education and Experience**
Graduation from a recognized nursing program is required, along with a minimum of one year's recent psychiatric nursing experience with adults who have a variety of mental disorders. A minimum of six months of experience supporting mental health clients in a community setting or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is also required. Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant or a practicing RPN registrant is necessary. Current CPR certification is required.
**Knowledge and Skills**
We are seeking a nurse who has knowledge of the Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR) model, assessment and treatment methodologies, and case management strategies. The ideal candidate will also have knowledge of relevant mental health and addictions legislation, including legal statutory boundaries governing consumer rights. Additionally, they will have knowledge of community mental health and addictions programs, services, resources, and promotion. The ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing is essential, as is the ability to use the nursing process in mental health treatment programs.
**Key Responsibilities**
The successful candidate will be responsible for administering and monitoring the side effects of psychotropic medications, working independently in a community setting, and working effectively and cooperatively in a team environment. They will also be responsible for practicing initiative, good interpersonal, crisis intervention, leadership, and teaching skills, as well as effective communication and counseling with individuals, families, and groups. The ability to manage aggressive behavior and to use non-violent crisis intervention and behavioral management techniques where appropriate is also required.
**Physical Demands and Work Environment**
The physical demands of this position require the ability to perform the duties of the job. Travel is a requirement of this position, and transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of the Program.
