The Pod Group is partnering with this organisation to place an impactful and strategic leader to fulfil the role of the Social Worker (Maternal Infant Mental Health – MIHM).

The Social Worker – MIMH will engage pregnant and parenting young mothers in a variety of psychotherapeutic interventions with the goal to improve their ability to transition into parenthood and manage relationships with their children, family and friends while promoting growth in all life domains.

The Social Worker – MIMH is part of the MIMH team, which is collectively responsible for providing a variety of parenting and early childhood interventions for families with children 0 to 6 years old, in the community and those enrolled in other Campuses.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT 🎯

A) Provide counselling and psychotherapy services

- Carry a client caseload of individuals and families as assigned by the manager with the goal to engage in therapeutic services.

- Engage clients to develop and implement treatment plans and complete session notes and clinical reports in a timely manner.

- Communicate with family, professionals, and other organisations, when required by the treatment plan.

- Provide brief services, short‑term information, and referral services as needed in a wide range of issues including advocating on behalf of clients in the community through referrals, letters, phone calls and/or accompaniment to appointments as required.

B) Conduct therapeutic and psycho‑educational individual and group programmes

- Facilitate evidence‑informed and evidence‑based programmes related to attachment theory, trauma, parent‑child relationship and infant and early childhood development.

- Program planning and development.

- Conduct pre‑ and post‑participation assessments, and facilitate and assess intakes as required.

- Monitor children’s development using an evidence‑based screening tool (like Ages and Stages Questionnaire), and work with parents to create Developmental Support Plans based on child’s needs.

- Facilitate referrals to specialised services depending on the needs.

- Facilitate attachment‑based interventions either for individual or for groups of caregivers.

C) Participate as a member of the staff team

- Work collaboratively with all members of the interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary teams to promote an effective and coordinated approach to client service.

- Contribute to the overall functioning of the counselling and psychotherapy services and communicate with the manager to address staff / programme matters.

- Act as a representative of the organisation and the Maternal Infant Mental Health programme when engaging in the community.

- Supervise university or college field placement students, as assigned.

- Participate in quality assurance, evaluation and research activities as assigned.

- Provide constructive feedback to staff team as appropriate and be open to accepting constructive feedback from team members, peers and manager.

- Provide back up for intake programme services as necessary. Participate in ongoing training and clinical supervision as required by the role.

- Perform other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING 🎓

- A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or equivalent, and eligible for independent practice of the Control Act of Psychotherapy in Ontario.

- Registered in good standing with The Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.

- Certificate in Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health or equivalent is an asset.

- Minimum 3 years experience in infant, child, youth or parenting counselling and psychotherapy.

- In‑depth knowledge/understanding of the issues effecting the intersections of young women and their infants.

- Experience performing advocacy work within a variety of systems such as child welfare, the legal system, housing, healthcare, etc.

- Experience working with racialised pregnant and parenting youth. Knowledge of prenatal, postnatal, and early parenting needs.

- Demonstrated knowledge and skills in infant and early childhood mental health and development.

- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multi‑disciplinary team.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

- Excellent interpersonal skills.

- Strong planning and organisational skills.

- Proficient with Microsoft, Outlook, TREAT, or the navigation and use of client databases.

- CPI training will be an asset.

- Proficiency in French language is an asset.
