Description of Opportunity

The Forensic Early Intervention Service (FEIS) provides outpatient services, including assessment, treatment, and discharge planning, for selected inmates of the new Toronto South Detention Centre. The service collaborates with the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services and operates within the Toronto South Detention Centre, with travel to sites such as 160 Horner Avenue (Etobicoke), 655 Martin Street (Milton), and 10 White Squirrel Way (Toronto).

Key Responsibilities

- Coordinate a client caseload and formulate treatment plans.

- Conduct occupational therapy assessments and implement interventions.

- Monitor client response to therapeutic intervention and adjust plans accordingly.

- Communicate findings to clients, social and community networks, correctional staff, and community service providers.

- Collaborate with an inter‑professional team, contribute to program development, and provide education support and supervision to students.

- Participate in research activities and contribute to continuous improvement of the program.

- Support a diverse, teamwork‑oriented workplace and comply with regulatory requirements.

- Work regular hours Monday‑Friday with occasional weekend and evening rotations.

Required Qualifications

- Registered and in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO).

- Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy (or Bachelor’s plus Master’s in OT, Rehabilitation Sciences, or related field).

- Three years of experience working with individuals with serious mental illness.

- Membership in the Ontario Society of Occupational Therapy or Canadian Association of Occupational Therapy.

- Holder of COTO’s pre‑requisite Professional Liability Insurance.

- Eligibility for adjunct/status‑only appointments with university faculties affiliated with CAMH.

- Experience in functional/vocational assessments, group facilitation; knowledge of recovery principles, concurrent disorders, crisis intervention, and family work.

- Specialized knowledge of the forensic system, assessment, rehabilitation, and risk management of mentally disordered offenders is an asset.

- Sound knowledge of emergency psychiatry, crisis intervention, addiction issues, and severe and persistent mental illness.

- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively as a team member in a dynamic, inter‑professional environment.

- Demonstrated ability to work with clients from diverse backgrounds.

- Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language is an asset.

- Access to a vehicle is required.
