About the Role

We’re adding a Senior Graphic Designer to Visual Capitalist’s Brand Solutions team.

We’re looking for someone who can work closely with writers and strategists to turn data into clear, compelling, and sharable visual stories for major global brands. If your passion sits outside data-driven storytelling, this role likely won’t feel like home.

You're inspired by Visual Capitalist’s content and love exploring new ideas quickly—whether that’s sketching out concepts, or using AI tools to iterate quickly. For you design isn’t just a licence for Adobe Creative Suite, it’s a way of thinking and solving problems for your clients. You’re a teamplayer, who loves collaborating with other designers, copywriters, art directors, and campaign managers. You are unflappable under pressure—you know what I’m cooking—and thrive in a demanding production environment where a day without a deadline is a day without sunshine.

Key Responsibilities

- Collaborate closely with writers/strategists, campaign managers, and other designers to bring data-driven stories and campaigns to life for the Visual Capitalist website, and our Voronoi app.
- Consult with clients on data visualization and campaigns, guide them on best practices, and advocate for strong storytelling and design.
- Mentor emerging dataviz designers by sharing your experience, offering feedback, and modeling creative excellence.
- Contribute actively to Learning Sessions, Designstorms, and debriefs, sharing inspiration and insights while staying current with best practices.
- Manage multiple projects and deadlines with calm efficiency, taking work from initial concept to final execution on time and to a high standard, incorporating feedback along the way.

Requirements

You are a fantastic fit for this role if you can identify with these traits and skills:

- Experience: 7 years or more of professional experience in graphic design, with specific experience in data visualization. Creative agency background, industry credentials (RGD, DesCan, AIGA), and/or prior experience in digital media are definite assets.
- Creative instincts: You bring a strong visual point of view, a steady flow of ideas, and a sharp eye for detail. You understand the narrative behind the data and know how to elevate it visually. You gather inspiration, think in stories, and translate concepts into clear, compelling designs. Animation experience is a bonus.
- Software proficiency: Adobe Creative Suite (illustrator, photoshop, firefly, etc); data visualization tools, (Tableau, Flourish, RawGraphs); and working familiarity with at least one AI tool. Bonus points for experience with collaboration tools (Figma, Slack, and Monday.com); and/or GIS (QGIS).
- Team player: a strong track-record of working as part of a creative team, including with writers, strategists, and campaign managers, and past experience mentoring junior creatives.
- Excellent presentation and consultation skills: including experience pitching creative concepts and articulating design decisions to clients, while educating them on best practices and providing strategic recommendations.
- Entrepreneurial mindset: You thrive in a fast-growing, fast-moving environment. You think beyond the brief, look for opportunities to improve processes, and help build systems, standards, and ideas that move the team—and the company—forward.

The Ideal candidate will be local to our headquarters, in Vancouver, BC, though exceptional candidates in other parts of Canada will be considered.

Compensation

The approximate salary range for this position is $65-75k. The actual salary will be based on various factors, including the candidate’s level of skills, experience and education aligned with the needs of the role, budget, and market.
