West Vancouver Transit has an immediate opening for one permanent full‑time Transit Mechanic “A”. This position is responsible for mechanical maintenance and repair work at the journeyperson level. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this position will be responsible for performing mechanical overhaul, repair, and maintenance tasks on transit vehicles in the shop or in the field, completing a variety of complex mechanical assessments; diagnosing various electronic components by performing diagnostic testing and troubleshooting using relevant computer software; submitting reports and maintaining records; performing a variety of gas and electrical welding tasks; and other related work as required.
Qualifications
- Red Seal Trades Qualification in Commercial Transport Mechanics or Heavy Duty
- Commercial Vehicle Inspection Certificate with air brake endorsement
- Class 2 or 3 Driver's License with Air Brake Endorsement
Additional requirements for this position include a minimum of five years' relevant experience; current knowledge of diesel engine and transmission electronic control systems; possession of own hand tools; air conditioning courses; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Successful candidates will be required to provide an acceptable driver’s abstract, a police information check, and copies of relevant credentials.

Hours of Work
40 hours per week
4 days on/3 consecutive days off (consistent workweek and schedule)
Rate of Pay
$55.96 per hour - Red Seal Rate *Plus tool allowance
(Plus: $1.95/hr shift differential for afternoon shifts and Sunday pay premiums and a retention allowance)
