Radiation therapists are a vital part of the team, responsible for delivering therapeutic doses of ionizing radiation in the treatment of cancer.

Radiation therapists plan the physical and technical aspects of radiation treatments and operate complex equipment to deliver high energy radiation therapy to cancer patients, including administering X-rays, gamma rays, and electrons for medical treatment.

- Calculate appropriate radiation doses for treatment plans and perform treatment verification
- Administer X-rays, gamma rays and electrons to cancer patients
- Assess, monitor, document and respond to patients’ physical and emotional needs during treatment sessions
- Perform quality assurance and maintenance procedures for equipment

Make a Difference

- Help patients navigate, manage, and cope with treatment sessions and side effects
- Educate patients and families about radiation treatments and potential side effects
- Participate in clinical research
- Work as part of an interprofessional team, including therapists, technologists, physicians, medical physicists, nurses, and other health care professionals
- May provide leadership and guidance to other cancer care personnel and health care workers
