Summary

The manager, information technology (IT) infrastructure leads the IT infrastructure teams, supporting systems and data centres, networks, electronic protection services, and advanced research computing, contributing to the stability, security, and performance of systems, networks, and data centre operations. This role oversees program development, operational planning, and technology roadmaps to support academic, research, and administrative priorities. As a subject matter expert, the manager provides guidance on infrastructure leading practices, security compliance, and operational excellence. This position manages a team of IT infrastructure staff, manages vendor contracts and service agreements, and contributes to equity, diversity, and inclusion within the unit. The position collaborates across the university to align technology initiatives with institutional goals, support business continuity, and advance research computing needs.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Manages thefull employee lifecycle of a team ofdirect reportsincludinghiring, mentoring, planning workflows, providing performance feedback, and supporting professional development

- Implementsleadingpractices and standards in systems, networking, storage, and cloud technologies in alignment with enterprise architecture andunitstrategy

- Manages the development and maintenance of infrastructure roadmaps in collaboration withunitsecurity and enterprise architecture colleagues

- Overseesinfrastructure operations, including patching, monitoring, incident response, and service continuity

- Develops and manages service level agreements, contracts, and vendor relationships tooptimizeservice delivery and cost efficiency

- Guides teams in applying operational excellence principles and IT service management practices to achieve consistent, high-quality outcomes

- Oversees multiyear planning and budgeting for infrastructure and capital projects

- Provides leadership in IT project delivery, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and available resources

- Builds and sustains strong partnerships with stakeholders across theuniversityto support institutional initiatives and research priorities

- Monitors industry and regulatoryadvancesandcomplieswithinformation security standards and regulatory requirements

- Identifiesissues, risks, and opportunities, recommendsresponses, andcommunicateswithunitleadership and stakeholders

- Participatesonstrategic planning, governance, and institutional committees

- Acts as a key liaison betweenthe unitand research groups to support advanced computing and data-intensive research needs

- Communicates and acts in a respectful and professional manner, collaborates effectively, abides by policy, contributes to a positive and productive work and learning environment, and models thesebehavioursacross the institution

- Builds and leads diverse teams, champions inclusive leadership, and values different perspectives

- Engages in and supports the understanding and growth of employees with the frameworks, initiatives, and activities relating to equity, diversity and inclusion, and Indigenous engagement

- Undertakes related duties, as assigned, consistent with the nature of the position

Qualifications

- A bachelor’s degree in computer science, commerce, business administration, or related field

- Industry certifications such as Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL), Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent are an asset

- Minimum of five years’ve related experience in information technology

- Minimum of two years’experience in asupervisory orleadership capacity including managing performance, fostering team culture, and driving operational excellence

- Experience leading infrastructure operations, systems administration, datacentre operations, or network management within a complex organization

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects

- Comprehensive knowledge of networking technologies, architectures, and operations including wired, wireless, firewalls, and software-defined networking

- In-depth understanding of datacentre operations, virtualization, storage, and high-availability systems

- Knowledgeofelectronic protection systems such as access control and closed-circuit television (CCTV), and telephony services

- Strong critical thinking, analytical, and decision-making skills

- Proficient with technology, including Microsoft Office applications, IT management and monitoring tools.

Salary: The salary range, based on 1.0 FTE, is $87,266.00 - 145,353.00 per annum. The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
