Occupational Therapist (Temporary Part Time, 0.5FTE, until January 2027)

The Allied Health and Rehabilitation team at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre is seeking a temporary part‑time Occupational Therapist to support acute care services across adult inpatient and ambulatory care settings. The role will primarily serve the Integrated Stroke and Rehabilitation Unit, providing high‑intensity rehab for patients with stroke and other medical diagnoses.

The position includes Monday‑Friday shifts from 08:00‑16:00 daily, plus a weekend rotation (1 in 5 weekends). It is a temporary role ending 18 January 2027.

Responsibilities

- Deliver acute occupational therapy supports within adult acute care areas.

- Support patients with stroke and other medical diagnoses on the high‑intensity rehabilitation program.

- Collaborate as part of an interprofessional assessment team.

- Document assessments, treatments, and outcomes using appropriate clinical systems.

- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical governance activities.

Qualifications

Education

- Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy program or a clinical Master’s in Occupational Therapy (or equivalent) – required.

- Current registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario – required.

- Member of the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists – preferred.

- Evidence of continuing education in acute care – preferred.

- Valid Certificate of Completion of MoCA certification – required.

- AlphaFIM training preferred.

Experience

- Recent Occupational Therapy experience in an acute care and/or rehabilitation setting – preferred.

- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of OT role and scope in promoting functional independence and occupational performance in an acute care setting – preferred.

- Knowledge of community services, supports, and equipment – preferred.

- Experience related to quality improvement initiatives or projects is an asset.

- Ability to function cooperatively as part of an interprofessional assessment team.

- Comprehensive assessment, treatment, and documentation skills.

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

- Sound clinical judgment, flexibility, and initiative.

- Effective communication with families, caregivers, and other professionals.

- Superior organizational and time‑management skills essential for caseload management.

Other

- Ability to learn about, from, and with other members of the patient care team to foster a strong interprofessional model of care.

- Demonstrate an ability to appreciate the importance of new concepts and the ability to trial new approaches.
