Requisition Details:\u00A0Employment Status: CasualProgram Name: Adult Day ProgramWork Schedule: DaysOn Call: NoExisting Vacancy: Yes - we're currently hiring candidates for an existing vacancy in this position.\u00A0Job Summary:\u00A0The Activity Aide provides quality support and care for individuals attending the Adult Day Programs by implementing planned program of activities within the framework of continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), VON philosophy, policies and procedures, standards and applicable legislation.\u00A0Key Responsibilities:Contributes to the development of the service plan for each client attending the Adult Day Program.Implements, evaluates and revises service plans on an ongoing basis in collaboration with the family/caregivers and internal team. \u00A0Collaborates with the Recreational Therapist and/or Program Coordinator in planning and implementing social and recreational programs.Participates in group activities to stimulate mobility, language, reminiscing, group identity and listening skills of clients.Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) as required (toileting, personal hygiene, medication assistance.\u00A0Collaborates with the team to identify risk factors and introduce interventions to minimize and eliminate client incidents.\u00A0Ensures safety and security measures for the client, volunteers and staff.Utilizes volunteers\u2019 talents and expertise within the program.Other duties as assigned.Common Responsibilities:Promotes the goals and values of VON and their role as an integrated community care provider\u00A0Promotes a safe and healthy workplace ensuring workplace conduct and activities are in accordance with the provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and compliant with the VON Safety Management System, including all Policies, Safe Work Practices and Procedures\u00A0Abides by all VON policies and work practices\u00A0Abides by all confidentiality and protection of personal information policies, regulations and practices and ensures appropriate safeguards are in place within their role\u00A0Works in collaboration with other staff in a team approach to service delivery\u00A0External and Internal Relationships:Collaboration with Program Coordinator, Recreation Therapist, RPN, Supervisor and ManagerEducation, Designations and Experience:Diploma or Certificate from a Community College level program or equivalent in health care, social science or recreation with an emphasis on GerontologyCurrent First Aid and CPR and Food Handler\u2019s certificates requiredCertification with GPA, Montessori an asset1-2 years of recent experience in Adult Day Services or working with groups of clients is an asset.Experience in working with adults, especially individuals (and their caregivers), with Alzheimer disease and other cognitive impairments and/or physical disabilities in a social setting a requirementSkill Requirements:Must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.Good observational skills related to client functioning abilities.Awareness of community resources.Ability to take direction, as well as to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.Other:A current and original copy of a satisfactory Criminal Records CheckMust have personal vehicle and possess both a current driver\u2019s license and proof of vehicle insurance\u00A0A Vulnerable Sector Search and/or a Child Abuse Registry Check may be requiredMust be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)Working conditions and physical demands: This role requires a detail-oriented approach in a dynamic environment, with physical activity including lifting, carrying (using proper techniques), bending, reaching, kneeling, and other movements that emphasize good body mechanics. Individuals in the role are required to walk, sit, stand, and climb stairs throughout the day, with some tasks requiring fine hand movements.
