Objective

The Triage Mechanic is helping customers on site maintain a strong and reliable fleet. With safety at the forefront, we inspect, test, and diagnose each piece of equipment to determine the serviceability and best course of action.

Responsibilities

- Diagnosing returned Heavy Construction Equipment and determining the best course of action with respect to servicing, repair, and maintenance
- Assessing and communicating the level of service or repair required with appropriate teams to assign equipment to shop mechanics
- Support and coach mechanics with equipment service and repairs to ensure minimum down time, providing parts recommendations to prevent stock outs where needed
- Consult the appropriate supervisors to determine if outsourced repairs are required
- Complete weekly Quality Control checks on serviced equipment.
- Summarize check‑in productivity and work to improve overall incoming diagnostic capabilities and outgoing equipment quality
- Maximize daily productivity by quickly identifying skill sets and technical strengths and sharing this updated information with admin to assign equipment to the appropriately skilled mechanic
- Recognize and help remedy safety hazards immediately on any returned equipment
- Assess and provide input related to equipment retirement
- Complete all work orders and maintain inventory control documents and related paperwork to preserve the integrity of our Rental Management database.
- Assist in the development of programs and strategies to maximize efficiency and effectiveness as your role grows
- Reporting any workplace hazards and helps to eliminate them to ensure a safe work environment
- Adhere to and promote our Company Safety Policies.
- Completing other duties as assigned

Requirements

- 5+ years of Heavy Equipment mechanic experience, preferably with diagnostic skills, and knowledge of diesel and gas engines.
- Proven experience within a Heavy Equipment Shop or Construction Rental environment
- Red Seal 421A is a strong asset
- Valid G Drivers license with a clean abstract
- Forklift license is an asset (Counterbalance and/or Reach)
- Must possess a mechanical aptitude and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Action‑oriented with attention to detail and a focus on quality and safety.
- Bona fide job requirement that you wear the following PPE safely and as per regulations:

- Hard hat

- Steel toed boots

- High Vis vest or uniform

- Safety glasses
