Justice Coordinator – 2.5 Year Term Opportunity

The George Gordon First Nation (GGFN) Justice Program aims to promote restorative justice principles, enhance community safety, reduce recidivism, and strengthen cultural resilience within our community. This program seeks to address legal issues and conflicts through a culturally sensitive and community-driven approach.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide support, guidance, and capacity development to the George Gordon members
- Provide supervision of the Justice Clerk
- Assist GGFN Justice Committee in meeting yearly objectives and requirements
- Serve as a liaison between the Saskatchewan Ministry of Justice, Justice Canada, Crown Prosecutors, Defence Lawyers, R.C.M.P., Victim Support, Addictions, and Mental Health organizations
- Attend each of the GGFN Justice Committee meetings as requested
- Assist in organizing and facilitating monthly Justice Committee meetings for the Justice Worker(s) as an opportunity for capacity development and networking
- Coordinate work plans, program activities, financials, budgets, and statistical reporting requirements for the George Gordon Justice Program, and the funding agencies
- File management for the George Gordon Justice Program which will include entering all data into the Ministry of Justice customer relationship management (CRM) database
- Assist as required with the Alternative Measures/Extrajudicial Sanctions processes on George Gordon First Nation
- Conduct monthly file reviews with each Justice Worker based on file load to ensure the Ministry of Justice’s Program Policy is being followed
- Develop, enhance, and maintain justice related partnerships with Stakeholders. This will include proposal writing, organizing/planning, creating promotional items, facilitating, and evaluating
- Perform other related duties as defined and assigned by the band council or Justice Committee when required
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Criminology, Social Work, Indigenous Studies, Justice, or a related field is preferred
- Knowledge of Indigenous justice systems, traditions, and cultural practices
- Experience in community engagement, advocacy, and project management
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a diverse team
- Understanding of the socio-economic challenges facing First Nation people on reserve and in Saskatchewan
- A valid Saskatchewan driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Must provide a current, original, Canadian Criminal Record Check (CCRC) with vulnerable sector search as a condition of employment
- Certification in First Aid and CPR, ASSIST, and Victim and Offender Mediation
- Knowledge of local Indigenous languages and cultures is an asset
Work Conditions
- Hours of work: This position is a full-time permanent position (35 hours per week), however some evenings and weekends work may be required
- Willingness to travel within the community and occasionally outside for training and meetings
- Location: George Gordon First Nation, Saskatchewan
Salary will be based on experience, training, and education. This two and a half (2.5)-year full-time temporary position reports directly to the Director of Operations.
