Position Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for engineering related activity, supervision of project work, and mine ventilation. In addition, the position will handle rock mechanics data, field observations, historical information, numerical modeling, vibration seismography, surface and underground surveying, AutoCAD mapping, and inspections. This individual will be responsible for the organization and upkeep of all record keeping associated with these duties.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Plan and schedule daily surface and underground engineering requirements with the Mine Manager.
- Take a project from conception, through construction to commencement. This includes detailed planning and scheduling of required tasks and material with the vendors.
- Assist in product quality control.
- Source and provide engineering for surface/underground mining equipment.
- Ensure compliance with work rules and safety rules.
- Inspect surface and underground ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies and municipalities.
- Assist in the development and implementation of the facility plan, which includes planning development, capital expenditures, project planning and estimating, manpower scheduling, reserve calculating and mineral rights acquisitions.
- Perform engineering and cost analysis on capital improvement projects.
- Implement and ensure the company’s health and safety program is compliant and effective.
- Perform routine evaluation/inspection of surface and underground workplace.
- Conduct accident investigations and maintain records.
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with local, provincial and federal agencies and their personnel.
- Apply engineering principles to lead a group accurately and in compliance with company policies, procedures, and government regulations.
- Establish key locations in underground workings to capture rock behavioral attributes; confirm definitions of modes of failure at the Ojibway Mine site.
- Conduct routine bore scope inspections in underground workings; record results and provide recommendations to the Engineering Manager, Mine General Supervisor and Mine Superintendent.
- Complete monthly ground control reports for senior mine staff.
- Complete scopes of work for remediation efforts at key locations in mine.
- Consult with production supervisors and engineering department to ensure ground control program and policy are being completed correctly. Personally inspect areas of questionable roof. Initiate corrective action as required.
- Responsible for ensuring communications for remediation requirements through meetings, teleconferences, etc.
- Based on the recommendation of the supervisors, evaluate the need for ground remediation equipment training.
- Other duties as assigned and required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- B.S. degree in Mining Engineering and/or Mechanical Engineering (required).
- 5+ years in the mining industry in operations management/supervision, and/or engineering (stringly preferred).
- Practical experience as an underground supervisor, miner, and/or engineer (preferred).
- Adept with the use of engineering and data software, including Microsoft office suite and preferably AUTOCAD.
- Underground surveying experience highly beneficial.
- Demonstrated ability to promote high levels of accountability; able to multi-task and prioritize as required.
- Ability to clearly communicate plans, opportunities, and pitfalls to others in writing and verbally so others can perform their role with minimal misunderstandings.
- This job operates partially in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
- Must be able to wear the required PPE (steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, hard hat, safety harness and electrical safety equipment).
- Must be able to work safely in varying temperatures in production/warehouse workplace and outside year-round.
- Must be capable of lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling loads up to 50+ lbs.
- Must be able to climb, crawl, stoop, bend, squat, and reach as required to work on equipment.
