Westman Immigrant Services (WIS) is a non‑profit registered charity organization serving newcomers in the Western Manitoba region. With a vision of creating a generational impact for clients, our staff and our community. We liaise with community groups and organizations to work towards building capacity in our community for improving services to immigrants and refugees.

Overview

We are currently hiring for a People and Finance Manager. Working from the WIS offices in Brandon, a People and Finance Manager is responsible for the overall administration, compliance, reporting, management and accountability of Westman Immigrant Services people and financial operations.

Responsibilities

- Develop, implement and maintain people policies, procedures and programs in compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements
- Perform full‑cycle recruitment including job postings, candidate screening, interview coordination, reference checks, onboarding documentation and orientations
- Provide advice, training, recommendations to management and assistance where required on labour relations and people administration i.e. WCB claims, benefits, performance management, conflict resolution, disciplinary process and terminations etc.
- Manage accounts payable, receivable, cash controls and payroll
- Prepare claim forms in the time frame designated by funder, monthly financial statements, management reports, timely reconciliations, and financial deliverables to internal and external stakeholders
- Prepare yearly budgets, track expenses, provide projections for costs, and lead financial audits and financial monitoring
- Ensure confidential storage in compliance with relevant retention guidelines and maintenance requirements for personnel, financial and relevant government documentation
- Review opportunities towards improving efficiency and effectiveness
- Assess risk and provide recommendations for organizational improvements
- Department personnel administration i.e. scheduling, attendance, training, coaching etc.
- Create an inspiring, engaging and collaborative atmosphere within teams and other WIS departments to achieve collective goals and deliver quality service to clients
- Provide leadership with operational support as required

Skill, Ability and Licensing Requirements

- Able to maintain personal accountability and ownership of team performance
- Managerial capabilities to assist in the execution of strategic directive and leading teams towards achieving collective organizational goals including troubleshooting, practicing good communication, managing and developing people and excellent interpersonal skills
- Experience managing and developing people operations
- Proficiency with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and related experience including preparing and understanding financial statements/reports, budget preparation, commuter usage, cash flow projections
- Experience with IT tools i.e. HRIS, computerized accounting, payroll programs, MS Office etc.
- Engage and invest in professional growth opportunities
- Strong proficiency and ability to communicate in English
- Provide a clear Criminal Record, Adult Abuse Registry Check and Driver Abstract; where required
- Possess a valid Manitoba Driver's Licence and access to reliable transportation
- Ability to work collaboratively with management, employees, and community stakeholders in a diverse environment
