Dynacare is looking for a Senior Laboratory Assistant to join our Specimen Processing team in London, Ontario. You will assist with operational functions of the Department. Participate in staff training, scheduling and evaluation. Receive and respond to staff and client requests. Assume full supervisor responsibilities in the absence of Department Manager.Responsible for ensuring prompt and courteous customer service. Ensure that standards for technical efficiency, quality control, Ministry of Health and other government regulations are met. Responsible for assigning staff appropriately to ensure adequate bench coverage within the Specimen Processing Department during staff absence, shift change and lunch periodsAssume responsibility of the Department Manager during vacation time and other absences as required. Provide assistance to employees as required, on interpretation of policies and proceduresAssist with scanner (imaging) problems and maintenance, as requiredassist with completing maintenance and repair forms for various departmental equipment when necessarySort and/or label specimens received matching to the documentation providedPrioritize time sensitive specimens upon receipt. Separate specimens to correct vials according to barcodes and type of test and ensure to place all specimens in appropriate area for testing and/or shipment to an outside laboratoryData enter and process client work as requiredPrepare specimens and documentation for reference testingEnsure type of specimen is correct for specified test and sent to correct Reference LaboratoryFollow special procedure for packaging and shipping infectious material set by the company, MOH and other governing bodiesassist with reference bench problem solving on outstanding reference resultsLiaise with various departments for any problems and inquiriesReport unresolved issues to the Department Manager, Specimen ProcessingAssist in training and orientation of staffParticipate in safety programs and activities such as training, communication, inspection, and investigation of general safety promotionsEnsure each employee receives proper instruction and safety training for each job assigned, prior to implementation as requiredPerform routine equipment maintenance following documented procedures, as requiredDocument all maintenance performed, including minor troubleshooting following manufacturer’s instructionsObserve and report all malfunctions of equipment and maintain all required logbooks for routine equipment What YOU bring to the role: Strong leadership qualities High school diplomaLaboratory Assistant Program or equivalent previous experience. Minimum of 3 years experience in data entry and verification of medical requests.Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team centered environment. Excellent sense of organization and demonstrated autonomyEase of working in a changing and constantly evolving environmentNice to have: Working knowledge of Microsoft OfficeAvailability to work overtime as neededMLPAO CertificationPassionate about supporting healthy lives with commitment and care?
